Cisco Catalyst Switch Part Numbers Decoded

Have you ever looked at some of the equipment in your data center and thought "What does this number even mean?" Hardly a day goes by where we don't walk through our warehouse and stare at part numbers wondering the exact same thing.  In an effort to ease everyone's minds a little (including our own), let's start small and work our way through this labyrinth together, a little bit at a time.  Today we'll focus on Cisco Catalyst Switches starting with this part number:
